Polk County Jail Roster

The Polk County, Florida jail roster is a public resource that allows you to find out who is currently in custody at the county jail. PolkCourt.us provides access to public information about current and recently released inmates. Additionally, data can be obtained through the official website of the Polk County Sheriff's Office, by phone, or in person at the facility's reception. The roster is maintained by the Detention Division of the Sheriff's Office under the leadership of Sheriff Grady Judd; it is updated throughout the day and posted on the Sheriff's website. The search allows you to check custody status, charges, and basic personal information.

Search Current Inmates in Polk Jail

Online Search

  1. Visit the Jail Inquiry page on the Sheriff's website or use PolkCourt.us to search for public court and arrest information.
  2. Enter the detainee's last name. If necessary, add the first name to refine the results.
  3. If the booking number is known, it can also be used as a search criterion.
  4. Review the results — the system will show current inmates with charges, booking date, and bail amount.

A full legal name is required for the search. Juvenile offenders are not displayed in the public roster.

Find Polk Jail Booking Records Online

A booking record is created each time a person is brought to the jail and registered. It is not a conviction but a record of being taken into custody. During the procedure, a set of data is formed:

  • Unique booking number
  • Date and time of intake
  • List of charges
  • Arresting agency (Sheriff's Office, city police, etc.)
  • Mugshot and basic identification data

Most of this information is available through the Jail Inquiry page. If more detailed information or a document copy is needed, submit a request to the Records Division of the Sheriff's Office. According to Florida Statute 119, such records are public and can be obtained in person, by phone, or by email.

If the person has already been transferred to the state system, continue the search on the Florida Department of Corrections website. A directory of county jails with links to inmate searches is also available on the Florida Department of State website.

Search the Polk Jail Roster by Last Name or Booking Number

The search system on the Sheriff's website supports two main methods.

Search by Last Name

Enter the last name in Latin letters in the Last Name field. If the last name is common — for example, Smith or Johnson — add the first name, otherwise, the system will return dozens of matches. Check the spelling: one extra letter can yield an empty result. Some spelling variations (hyphenated, with apostrophes) are processed differently by the system, so try several options.

Search by Booking Number

The booking number is the most accurate way to find a specific record. It is usually known to the attorney or indicated in the documents issued upon arrest. Enter it in the appropriate field — the result will be a single record.

If the Search Yields No Results

  • Ensure the name is entered correctly and completely.
  • Try narrowing the query to just the last name.
  • The person may have already been released or transferred — in such a case, they disappear from the active roster.
  • Call the AIS line (863-457-3738) and confirm the status verbally.
  • Check for active warrants through the Warrants Inquiry page.

Jail Roster Updates and Search Limitations in Polk

The Polk County inmate roster is updated throughout the business day but is not a real-time system. Between the actual booking and the appearance of the record in the online database, it may take from a few minutes to several hours — depending on the facility's workload and time of day.

Here are the main limitations to consider:

  • Delay after arrest. A recently detained person may not yet appear in the system if the registration procedure is not completed.
  • Disappearance after release. Once a person is released on bail, by court decision, or after serving their term — their record is removed from the active roster. The online list only shows those currently in custody.
  • Not an archive. The roster does not store the full history of all bookings. To obtain old records, contact the Records Division or submit a Polk County public records request.
  • Data entry errors. Sometimes a last name may be recorded with a mistake or in an alternative spelling, complicating the search.

To verify information about persons wanted by the police at the state level, use the Public Access System (PAS) of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. If court documents are needed — case files, decisions, appeals — search through the Florida Courts portal for Polk County.
